Weather still high pressure, light wind and some mist. This is the day to pass through the Raz de Sein, which is said to easy if you time it right, horrid if you don't and dangerous if the wind and swell are bad. The choice was to be at the Raz at 6:30am or 6:30pm. Well, that's not a hard decision, but we justified choosing 6:30pm by saying that there probably would be no wind in the morning and it might fill in later.
The Frenchman on the nearby boat provided some good tips about places to visit, coming over in his dinghy to show us his "Bloc Marine" almanac. Took a trip ashore for coffee and shopping and then later visited the museum. Most of it is devoted to the remarkable story of when Gen de Gaulle appealed for Frenchmen to join the Free French in London. He made the appeal on 18 June 1940. On the 19th June the first boat left Ile de Sein, followed over a few days by several others until all the men had joined up. The other theme was how the island gets battered by the weather, and has been seriously flooded several times.
Departed earlier than our carefully planned time and followed the East channel from Ile de Sein. The Raz was boring - no waves, whirlpools or anything else of interest. They say that's what it's like if you time it right (we were 1 hour early, which sometimes is not a good thing but there was no wind). Motored all the way to St Evette, where we picked up a mooring.
Hopefully tomorrow we go round Pointe de Penmarc'h. Then we will really be in S Brittany. Hopefully we will have some wind. Don't want to motor all the way, even if it does give us lots of hot water and well-charged batteries
