Never heard of Lesconil? Nor had we until our informant at Ile de Sein showed us it in his Bloc Marine. He said the port was no longer full of fishing boats and had installed pontoons for yachts. We now have a planning problem: leave early and get some tide to help us round Pointe de Penmarc'h (probably motoring) or wait for a while and hope some sea breeze fills in and we can sail all the way. We chose to leave early as the previous day there had hardly been any wind all day.
After hours of motoring gently with favourable tide we passed Pointe de Penmarc'h. Saw 3 dolphins! - our first if you discount the tame one at Carn Ar Monse. Eventually a bit of wind arrived and so we gratefully stopped the engine and sailed slowly as we were on a dead run. Once we turned onto the leading line for Lesconil the wind angle improved and we started sailing properly - just when we were trying to find imaginary leading marks!
Lesconil is a quiet place with room for a few yachts and with a number of fishing boats. Lots of space on shore no longer being used. 2 new fishing boats were being fitted out with all the latest gear, so someone has some money! These are to be used for sardine fishing locally, using seine nets - that's why the sardines are expensive here!
Hot in the harbour - a reminder that we are at last in the South of Brittany, so we went shopping and for a swim. Ate moules at the restaurant.
Tomorrow we will buy fresh fish when the boats come in and hopefully then go the Iles de Glenan (that is where the Glenans sailing school originated)
