3 July 2010 - Iles de Glenan to Doelan

Yesterday's minor front has now passed, pressure is up again and sunshine has resumed. More like the sort of weather needed at the islands. Sailed off the mooring in very light wind - that's a bit more in the Glenans spirit of things - in place of yesterday's motoring. Moved slowly round to the E side of the island of Penfret, where Centre Nautic Glenans has one of their bases. After a brief walk on the island we returned to the boat for a swim and lunch. Entertained by many French boats out on a day trip from the mainland. One group landed 3 big coolboxes and a picnic table and other stuff on the beach. Another made a raft of 8 boats on various anchors and had a very sociable time. A big raft like that seemed a good way to use the limited space in the bay, which after a while contained 22 boats.

By the end of lunch a good wind had filled in, but we no longer had a full day, so chose the nearest of our short list of destinations. Didn't fancy a dead run so gybed our way to Doelan, which turned out to be an excellent choice. Moored on fore and aft moorings just inside the entrance with help from 2 HMs in their launch, wishing the wind was the forcast N rather than the actual W. It soon dropped and veered anyway. Would be too exposed if wind in the S as we are inside the outer breakwater but not in the harbour proper. Nice quiet village with fishing boats, places to eat and drink but no shops. Supper on boat followed by crepe ashore.

Tomorrow we might head for Belle Ile. Sometime soon we need to think about when we start going back home again.
